Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am originally from California, grew up in Boulder, and am now located in Longmont. When I am not sewing, I love to camp, garden, read, and hang with my crazy cattle dog.

When did you know you wanted to get into the fashion industry?

I didn’t, until I ended up in the industry in a roundabout way and discovered how much I loved it.

What materials do you use in your garments?

Plant based natural fiber and organic textiles.

What inspires your designs?

The color and texture of the textiles I use, and the beauty of a thoughtfully designed garment.

How has your style evolved and why?

While staying focused on environmentally friendly materials and processes, over the last twenty years I have expanded my design skills. This enables me to incorporate more into the garments I produce. Creating well fitting clothing is an ongoing challenge, which I am fascinated by.

I am now more focused on creating the specific style/look I am after while incorporating an excellent fit, ease of movement and practical aspects (like pockets!).

The most sustainable garment is one that is loved and worn over and over, and that requires more than just being cute- it has to fit and function beautifully as well.

What is your favorite project right now? Why?

Floral linen dresses, simply because they are so much fun!

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

That designing clothing is actually engineering, and that I am never going to stop learning new and better ways of doing things.

What do you like about being a Firefly Handmade artisan?

Interacting with my interesting, kind, funny customers!
