The Shape Of Wood transforms urban timber into functional, handcrafted art pieces designed for everyday living. Founded by craftsman Peter Cozens alongside his wife, Trish, the business turned a passion sparked by a 2015 lathe purchase into a thriving trade featured at local art festivals. By partnering with neighborhood tree removal services and residents, they rescue downed local hardwoods—from rich Black Walnut to shimmering Cottonwood—rescuing beauty from landfills and gifting custom bowls back to property owners in exchange for harvested wood. Every food-safe bowl, cutting board, platter, and custom furniture piece is individually turned from solid wood, often embracing natural knots or resin-stabilized Wabi Sabi imperfections to celebrate the distinct character and rarity of Denver’s urban forest.
