About
In 1979, Nha Vuu and her family fled communist persecution in Vietnam, living as refugees for two years before being granted asylum in the United States. After spending twenty years in Seattle, Nha made a bold return to Asia to travel and study Chinese painting. She spent nearly five years in Taiwan studying under two distinct masters: Lin Ruo-Yu, who schooled her in a classical style dating back thousands of years that emphasizes unity, balance, and movement, and Cai Mao-Song, who taught her a contemporary approach developed over the last fifty years that utilizes textured brushwork to give landscapes expressive power and depth. By mastering both classical, fine-stroke techniques and modern, textured methods, Nha combined these contrasting traditions to create a unique artistic style.
Nha’s distinct body of work reflects the harmony of her mentors' teachings, balancing form and space to evoke a sense of timelessness and "Chi" alongside Master Cai’s "rhythmic abstractions," which lend vibrant life and motion to her subjects. Beyond her formal training in Taiwan, her artistic perspective was enriched by traveling to nearly twenty countries, where she sketched, took photographs, and gathered inspiration for ongoing series of paintings. Today, Nha continues to build upon this firm foundation of ancient concepts and contemporary movement from her home in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she lives with her husband, Chris, and daughter, Sierra.
