Green Belly began when Juan shared his mother Maria del Carmen’s traditional Guatemalan hot sauce with friends, who were immediately hooked on its unique blend of cilantro, garlic, and habanero. Driven by overwhelming local demand, Juan launched a tent at a farmer’s market in 2015 and brought on his cousin Charlie, whose business background helped navigate the early struggles of balancing full-time jobs, family life, and high product demand. Built on a foundation of family and community, the brand quickly expanded from a local favorite into a thriving nation-wide business that has even shipped internationally.
At its heart, Green Belly is dedicated to delivering fresh, flavorful sauces while creating a positive global and environmental impact. The company crafts its lineup—including a signature cobanero pepper sauce—by sourcing directly from Mayan Q’eqchi’ farmers in Guatemala, helping lift families out of poverty and foster entrepreneurial growth in developing economies.
