Fall Fest 2017 Recap

Firefly Handmade returned to the Downtown Boulder Fall Fest last weekend for an incredible 30th year celebration! Many thanks to our amazing Firefly community of artisans, shoppers, volunteers and supporters for helping to make this a huge success!

This year’s event had over 80,000 visitors and our artisans couldn’t be happier. “The location of the the show coupled with the fall weather reminded me of the magical quality of Colorado that attracts so many and lures all of us back who dare to leave, said Beth Van De Water of Belle Voir. “The red brick sidewalk spotted with thriving gardens, rock sculptures, play areas, and street performers became a festive backdrop for the white tents full of Colorado and national artisans and their work. Pearl Street Mall was streaming with people. It was a marvelous way to usher in autumn.”

Belle Voir

Over 120 handmade artisan booths were scattered throughout the infamous Pearl Street Mall. The positive energy was contagious and the scene was a delight for all the senses. We thoroughly enjoyed the smell of hand-poured soy candles, the taste of local craft brews as well as the touch of gentle textiles crafted with love and care. Not only did we revel in all the discoveries around each corner, but the love and respect of our community was palpable. We watched vendors help each other unload, raise tents and watch each other’s booths when a quick break was needed.

Jack and Nicole

Jack and Nicole delighted us with their hip line of hand-sewn children’s clothing. They were ready for fall with these cute Thanksgiving themed sweatshirts that are as functional as they are fun. The soft quilting of varied textures is a baby favorite as they start to explore the world.

Dana Birke Designs

Each year Firefly works hard to creatively curate hand-made artisans, mostly from Colorado, but also from all over the country. While there were plenty of fresh faces at the market it was fun to see our veterans work hard to create a welcoming experience in their booths. This suitcase found at Dana Birke Designs belonged to her great, great grandfather!

The Spiral Collective

Kait Welch of The Spiral Collective created a mini apothecary in her booth offering tons of free samples and an interactive experience with her wares. Her natural line of bath and body care products will have us feeling rejuvenated in no time!

Tyler Voorhees

Tyler Voorhees took a different approach with his space and created a tiny art gallery that you could walk through to peruse his latest collection: The Jobs of Yesteryear. We were immediately captivated by his collaboration with Liberty Puzzles, a mainstay on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall. Liberty Puzzles is known for taking famous works of art and printing them on blocks of wood that are laser cut into gorgeous keepsake puzzles that will keep you and your loved ones busy for hours!

Designs by Elle

As if on cue, Fall Fest happened to be on one of the very first crisp, cool fall days. Many of our vendors came prepared with warm sweatshirts, hats and blankets. Designs by Elle had gorgeous hand-made swaddling blankets available that make the perfect gift for baby. She also kept us cozy with her beautiful handknit scarves and shrugs.

La Fortune Artisania

There was so much to explore at the Firefly Handmade Fall Market! From baby goods to jewelry and everything in between, we were impressed at the variety of goods and passion that went into each booth. The beautiful wall hangings and planters created by La Fortune Artisania immediately captured our attention. What was your favorite booth?

Fall Fest was a smash and while we’re sad the festivities had to come to an end, Holiday Market is just around the corner! Please save the dates - Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19! We’ll be the one of the first events at the new Embassy Suites Ballroom in Boulder, Canyon Blvd. and 28th St.,right across the street from The Buff. Applications are still open through Sept. 24 and you can apply here. Here’s to another successful event!
