House of Alpine, Handcrafted Custom Wood Furnishings, New & Featured Spring Market Artisan

From Australia with love! Mike Rudd, designer and maker of elegant, sophisticated, simplistic wood furnishings, loves what he does and it's obvious in his workmanship.

Why did you begin your handmade journey?

I started House of Alpine to combine my love of design & hands-on work with fixing a fundamental issue I find with big box furniture stores; a lack of quality and honest materials. I studied to be an Industrial Designer during college but found it to be very removed from working with a product from conception to production. I wanted more of a hands on approach and personal flair. I find working with wood to be very rewarding as you sculpt and transform raw materials into finished works of art. No two furniture pieces are the same. There is a lot of problem solving and attention to detail which all comes together to create a finished product that I am always proud of. It's a pleasure to create something so unique for every one of my clients. Having a custom furniture piece in your home feels so much more rewarding and personal than from a big box store.

How did you begin your handmade journey?

I began my woodworking journey in Sydney, Australia at a custom wood furniture Start-up. I worked alongside the founding owner on projects ranging from custom residential to full scale commercial fit-outs. With a natural eye for detail and aptitude for perfection I soon became the Production Manager and the right-hand representative of the business.

After much research and preparation I decided to start my own business in the United States. I settled in Denver, CO and got straight to work. Leasing a bare-bones workshop in Englewood, I set about sourcing the machinery that creates the backbone of House of Alpine. After receiving my first order in November 2016, things have been growing steadily. From entire home furnishings to one-of-a-kind custom requests, I enjoy every day at work. I created House of Alpine to provide clients with unique, high quality furniture made from honest materials. No trickery, no 'engineered woods', no mass production. Products made-to-order and made with passion.

Take pride in your furniture from House of Alpine, your local source for high quality handmade wood furniture.

What materials do you work with & why?

At House of Alpine, we only use high quality materials. Cheap materials make cheap products and there's no hiding that.

What inspires your work?

I gain inspiration from the things around me. Life is busy and complex, I like my furniture designs to make a statement in as few words as possible. Simple, clean, elegant designs, built with quality materials.

What excites you for the future?

The future for House of Alpine is bright. I look forward to my continued influence on people and their homes. It's nice to develop a personal relationship with clients along the way. It makes it all the more special when I deliver a furniture piece that has countless hours of development and shaping in order to get to the end result. I've never had a dissatisfied client and I intend to keep it that way. Communication is key and I love the entire process; from ideation to creation. I build long lasting furniture and relationships under one roof; House of Alpine - your local source for high quality handmade wood furniture.
