All About Adorned, Premier Sponsor of Firefly Handmade
Firefly Handmade is always happy to make new friends in the Boulder community, after all, we’re only as strong as those we surround ourselves with. Supporting local artists and businesses is an essential element to success. Adorned, the new sister store to long-time Boulder favorite Nomad Bead Merchants, is a our new Premier Sponsor! We are so excited about everything that Adorned brings to the table and want to share their story. Read on to learn about our newest partner and why Adorned should become a staple in your Boulder shopping experience.
Adorned came into being as a shared vision of a group of Boulder jewelry artists including Jacob March, Margot Koval, Catherine Phillips and Sara Preston from Nomad and Anna Holland of Dorje Designs. Catherine Phillips was fortunate enough to have been a part of the Middle Fish (a largely consignment hand-crafted gift store in Boulder) when she first came to Colorado in 1996. Her experience was invigorating and creative. The store closed about seven years ago and artists had to scramble to find venues for their work. Adorned wanted to recreate that experience for local jewelry artists. When the space next door to Nomad became available, it was as if it was meant to be.
Currently, Adorned, located across from the St. Julien on 9th St. at Walnut, has 30+ artists consigning all different kinds of personal adornment. Pieces are made from a variety of materials, in a variety of styles and at a variety of price points. Phillips says, “Looking forward, we hope to become the go-to gallery in town for hand-crafted jewelry and personal gifts. Additionally, the store hopes to foster their artists and give them a place to try out new ideas.” They’re already off to a good start as they helped start their first individual artist's Etsy shop as of September. “We are driven by the need to support artists in their efforts to continue creating,” Phillips adds.
Phillips and the rest of the Adorned team knows how crucial it is to participate in the Boulder community, both in terms of support and success. Phillips encourages local business owners: “Make friends with everyone - it's a great community. Most of all, enjoy the ride. We love being in the business of making things.”
Part of being an active member of the Boulder business community for Adorned is giving back. They are strong supporters of Art Parts, a creative reuse center at 2780 Bluff Street. Art Parts has been open a year and accepts donations of materials that could be used in creative endeavors. Their goal is to recycle materials and collect those that could be reused by artists. The store even has a small gallery that features works made of recycled materials.
“We are honored and excited to be a part of Boulder's creative community. Come on by and say hello!” says Phlilips. Likewise, Firefly Handmade can't wait to see where this partnership with such a creative, giving and inspiring local business takes the Boulder community.
