You'll Love the Wild, Colorful, Creative Animal Illustrations by Brooke Connor Design, New and F
Brooke Connor specializes in illustrating mother nature’s creatures, using extreme color and bold contrast. She's a very accomplished artist with a great sense of style and humor, and a unique imagination.
The base drawing is beautiful, about to become a photo-realistic masterpiece, and then BAM!, Brooke takes out her enormous set of markers and adds color - lots and lots of color!
Brooke uses extreme color and bold contrast, so much that her art catches people's eyes and makes it hard to look away. Her illustrations are partially realistic and partially over the top.
The color over-reaction is the direct consequence of many years of line drawing in the absence of color. Brooke started drawing using Rapidograph pens (technical drawing pens) with black India ink. And for decades, she could not find a way to color these pen and ink drawings with a medium that provided transparency, brilliance, saturation, shading, and control. And then came high-quality artist markers, like Copic Markers. Brooke had found Nirvana.
FF: Why did you begin your handmade journey?
BCD: Art is therapeutic and boy did I need it, and still do.
FF: How did you begin your handmade journey?
BCD: I have always been on this artistic journey. Its just that my artistic journey was MY journey, and was not shared with others until I gathered enough confidence to face the world. Brooke Connor Design was launched in 2007.
FF: What lead you to your current line of goods?
BCD: When I discovered Copic Markers, I discovered color and that changed everything. All of my previous designs were black and white - because there was no acceptable medium to color my line drawings. Once I found out how fabulous markers are these days, I was sold. Perfect.
FF: What materials do you work with?
BCD: Copic and Prismacolor markers and the highest quality papers and inks.
FF: What inspires your work?
BCD: I love animals. There are so many kinds, in so many colors, with so many faces and so many patterns. I always have something more that I have to draw.
FF: What excites you for the future?
BCD: I would like to find the perfect story to illustrate, and become a part of millions of young children's imaginations.
