Behind the Scenes with Elycia Feldman of Wild Blossoms Studio, New and Featured Spring Artisan
Take some sweetgrass, air plants, fresh and dried flowers and unique accents, and you have signature floral art by Wild Blossoms Studio!
FF: How did you begin your handmade journey?
WBS: I have always wanted to start my own company. I have a degree in horticulture and am trained in floral design so I knew it would have something to do with plants. In 2011 I created my signature floral art using pressed flowers from my garden. I would make pieces for friends and they would ask for more! In 2012 when I found out I was going to have my second son I quit my 9-5 and started working from home. I began with pressed flower art, added on dried flower wedding accessories, dried flower décor, and now I offer fresh flowers for weddings and events in the northern Colorado and southern Wyoming areas. I love plants and am passionate about what I do!
FF: What materials do you work with & why?
WBS: I believe flowers are most beautiful in their natural state. I really like working with Air plants; I find them fascinating and challenging. I like to incorporate local flowers and herbs when I can. I'm a fiend for pretty ribbons and vintage style vases, anything made of twigs or grapevine, and I love the texture of quality watercolor paper.
FF: Inspiration comes from where?
WBS: During my 20's I had the opportunity to work for a wedding florist; her designs were beautiful and put together very professionally. I loved being part of the excitement and seeing all of the details come together. People inspire me with all of their different ideas, I'm always finding ways to incorporate their favorite colors, flowers, and themes. Other artists inspire me; we live in a community full of really talented people! The natural world is also full of inspiration.
FF: What excites you for the future?
WBS: My garden excites me! I am also excited to take on new projects and ideas. I like helping to create memorable events or spaces and look forward to meeting new people.
FF: Anything else you'd like to tell us?
WBS: I enjoy creating custom designs, I believe flowers should be designed in a way to look and feel natural. Using our resources to make functionality priority in all ventures is truly important to me. My designs are put together professionally with the best materials available. Some flowers are grown on site, some are harvested from locals, and some are shipped from around the world, it all depends on what my customers want. With a few good props and some beautifully arranged flowers you can really set the stage, so have fun and be creative!
